Pielmeier helps stream roll rival

Timo

Reign

Timo Pielmeier goes 2-1-0 as he had 33 out of 36 saves to beat the Los Angeles ECHL Affiliate in a 8-3 win at home. Pielmeier is the No 1 goalie in Bakersfield as the Ducks have called up Justin Pogge, the goalies have split games between each other. Pielmeier may of struggled in the first game absolutely do not count him out, it should be obvious considering his record as of now. He's a very good goalie and his focus is excellent, his movements are fluent.

Leafs@Ducks

Hillsy

Leafs

Justin Pogge was called up to replace an injured Giguere who aggravated his groin during the loss to the Blue Jackets. Justin Pogge was all smiles as the media from Toronto flooded over to Pogge's stall in the Ducks locker room. Watch his interview here

Leafs Mike Komisarek’s mother had Pancreatic Cancer and Ducks Saku Koivu called her every day, Komisarek said she had a smile from ear to ear after she got off the phone. Komisarek and Koivu are very good friends. Unfortunately, Komisarek's mother lost her battle. Saku Koivu made her life much easier.

The Ducks allowed 5 power play goals in their loss to the Maple Leafs the most in franchise history.

Final: Maple Leafs 6 Ducks 3

Starting Goaltender: Jonas Hiller

Hiller threw out his glove hand to make his first save of the game. Hiller made a closed butterfly save on Grabvoski. Erik Chirstensen got a tough break as the puck missed the net it looked like it was going to go in but it did not. Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson robbed him. Hiller made two saves, the first on former Duck Francois Beauchmin the puck had gotten away from him and he gobbled up the rebound.

Petteri Nokelainen got his first goal of the season as he got the pass from Bobby Ryan who got it from Scotty.

Niedermayer passed the puck to Nokelainen and Nokelainen shot the puck through traffic, as Todd Marchant was there on the door step, to block Gustavsson from seeing the puck all the way. Noke shot it from the blue line a one timer that went in.

George Parros got into a fight with Colton Orr definitely his best fight it was quite funny as Cole pushed the ref away who fell and quickly got up.

A line brawl with both teams gear was flying off and players were going at it. Getzlaf got into it with former Duck Beauchmin. Bobby Ryan came in Getzlaf’s defense. Scott Niedermayer also got into the fight. Corey Perry got a double minor as he before the brawl. Matt Stajan tried to keep Corey Perry out of the play and Perry reacted by lifting him and throwing him to the ice.

Francois Beachmin’s shot is corralled by Hiller. Hiller prevented all attempts as the Leafs tried to stuff it into the net. Mikhail Grabovski scored on the 3 on 5 man advantage power play. James Wisniewski went to the box for slashing; a great aerial pass from Matt Sajan from Tomas Kerbele to Mikhail Grabovoski.

A shot got through and passed Hiller on yet another power play goal by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the puck went top shelf as Hiller was on his knees and could not stop the puck. Jonas Hiller makes a save on the young Luke Schenn. Schenn, a highly touted young player’s shot was gobbled up as he had shot it from the blue line.
The Ducks took yet another penalty as Nokelainen went into the box on a hooking call. Hiller tries to make a save, as he went down on his side and stuck out his leg. Saku Koivu has excellent backchecking on his stick work to prevent the game from going 3-1 after the first period.

The Ducks did not throw very many shots in the beginning of the period.
The Ducks were not winning battles, which was a bad start to the beginning of second period.

Stempiak hit Todd Marchant hard; it looked to be a clean hit but a dangerous hit as Marchant hit his head on the boards. Thank you for the helmet Todd Marchant was not injured as badly as he could of been. Scott Niedermayer went in to attack Stempiak and was called for roughing. Yet the hit looked so dirty that hit could not of been ignored there was no way it could.

Another power play goal by Niklas Hagman gave the Leafs a 3-1 lead in mid period. Hiller made a great save on Stempiak but could not save the rebound as it went under his arm by a shot from Niklas Hagman.

Finally, the Ducks convert on a power play as Bobby Ryan put it behind Gustavsson who was down in the butterfly position as the Ducks got a much needed Power play; great connection with Perry and Scotty. It was a beautiful pass from Corey Perry to Bobby Ryan a great choice by Bobby as he put it behind The Monster. You can definitely see Allaire in his play.

Hiller gloved Grabokoski’s shot right out of the air a good angle cut which kept the Ducks deficit by one. There’s absolutely no doubt that Gustavsson had been delivering for the Leafs. Lee Stempiak scores the Leafs first regular goal as James Wisniewski went down and the puck went right through Hiller’s legs. Hiller has made some excellent saves but he has been struggling throughout the game.

James Wisniewski has a bad call against him as he swings the stick but only touches the puck and nothing else. At that the Leafs went on another power play. Captain Scott Niedermayer did not like the call as it should have been.

Tomas Karbele scored on the controversial power play on James Wisniewski and it bounces off of Hiller into the back of the net. The Ducks do not have a good penalty kill as they’ve been straggling on the penalty kill the entire game against Toronto. Hiller was not happy as he swallowed hard looking up at the Jumbotron.

A frustrated Anaheim Ducks team gets into more scrums with the Toronto Maple Leafs. George Parros has picked up a Game Misconduct.

It looked like James Wisniewski had a goal but he did not get it as the Leafs defense helped Gustavsson. Saku Koivu got a minor penalty for goaltender interference. The Leafs were yet again saved on a 5 on 3 Hiller robbed with his glove to prevent the goal.

Jonas Hiller made an excellent save on Niklas Hagman but left out the rebound and Hagman gets a hat trick. Hiller could not stop the rebound.

Corey Perry got a goal from a great pass off of Brendan Mikkelson to Ryan Getzlaf a outlet pass to Corey Perry. Perry shot the puck and got it behind Gustavsson. There was little to no celebration on Perry's goal not even he had a huge celebration. He threw up his arms for less than a second knowing that this goal could and would not get the Ducks to rally on a 3 goal deficit with 6:33 seconds left in the period. However the goal was his 5th goal of the season.

The Ducks went on just their third power play on a hooking call on the Leafs. Bobby Ryan was robbed by Gustavsson on a attempted power play goal. Bobby Ryan stick handled the puck around Gustavsson, fell and tried to swipe the puck into the net but the puck went to Gustavsson as if he were a magnet. Bobby Ryan lay on the ground and it could be seen Bobby saying “How did that not get in!?”

The Anaheim Ducks are 1-5-0 at home and lose their 4th straight. The Toronto Maple Leafs got their very first win of the season.

NEW FEATURE: Post Game quotes from the Boys in the Crease:
"It’s terrible," said Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller, who gave up all six Toronto scores. "We wish we knew what the problem is. Right now, we’re struggling and we can’t find a way to get out. I don’t know what it is. We have to go back to the basics. Everybody can play better, me included. I know I can play better. I hope everybody does. That is the only way we can go from here."

"Once we feel like we’re going, we take the next goal against and we’re back in the hole again," Hiller said. "I wish I had the solution. Hockey is a game of confidence and trusting each other. I don’t think that’s what we’re doing right now."

Pogge Wins. Olympics high on list for Pielmeier

Justin Pogge allowed 3 goals on 36 shots in the win over the Victoria Salmon Kings.

The Condors went to take the series over the Salmon Kings winning 2 of 3 games. Each goaltender Pielmeier and Pogge have wins to their names. The Ducks' Dan Sexton scored and he is currently tied in first with 3 goals. McGregor Sharp scored 2 goals and Ducks Stu Bickel and Logan McMillian also scored. MacMillian had the winning goal to boast the Condors into the has Bickel scored to tie up the game. Pogge had 33 saves and he is now 2-1-0 with Pielmeier being 1-1-0. Pogge played in the the 5-0 loss against the Salmon Kings and then had the nod for the final game against Victoria. The Salmon Kings are 1-5-0-0 with two points, while the Condors are 3-2-0-0 with six points.

Timo Pielmeier has the 2014 Olympics high on his list. Pielmeier would play for home country Germany if he is chosen to play. As of now, Timo's biggest dream is to make it to the NHL naming Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens as one of his idols:

“I think I’ll have a big chance for 2014,” said Pielmeier, outside the dressing room at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

National teams are important, added the Deggendorf native, but his biggest goal is to make it in club play in the greatest league in the world.

“I want to play in the NHL,” said Pielmeier.

“When I saw Carey Price play for Canada at the world juniors, I knew I had to come to North America to play major junior [Pielmeier did so in Quebec]. The aim now is to play well in the ECHL and get to the AHL and then the NHL.”

Timo Pielmeier is 1-1-0 with the Bakersfield Condors and had the win against the San Jose Sharks, the team who owned him and was seasoning him in with affiliate Worcestor Sharks. Timo was acquired in a trade which sent Ducks Kent Huskins and Travis Moen to San Jose.

Giguere Injury

Read Giguere

J.S. Giguere aggravated his groin muscle in the 6-4 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. A goal from the blue line off of Tyutin and a late reaction resulted in the aggravation of the injury; Justin Pogge was called up for the game against the Dallas Stars, just in case Giguere was unable suit up, the Ducks had reassigned Pogge back to their ECHL Affiliate in Bakersfield when Giguere was cleared and dressed for the Dallas game.
Jonas Hiller replaced Giguere and was pulled for the extra man as the Ducks could not hold back Columbus Rick Nash sealed the deal on an empty net; the Jackets surprised hockey fans around the league of making the playoffs. Their first playoff run in their respective history.

Pogge is a possibility of the call up against his former NHL team the Toronto Maple Leafs. The final decision will most likely come tomorrow morning. Giguere has so far ruled himself out of play for tomorrow's game.

“Uh, no,” Giguere said when asked if he could play. “Give it a couple of days rest here, and see what’s going to happen. We’re not too concerned about it, but … we have to give it time and make sure it’s ready.”

Giguere aggravated a groin muscle injury in the waning moments of Saturday’s game against Columbus when he tried to stop a shot by Fedor Tyutin.

“I didn’t see the puck until the last second, and when I saw it I threw my leg out and my groin let go,” he said.

Also in the news: Luca Sbisa the 19-year old defenseman, ,who the Ducks got as part of the deal with Joffrey Lupul in a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers which sent 2007 Stanley Cup wining defenseman Chris Pronger during the NHL entry draft on July 1, 2009 to Philly. Sbisa will be reassigned on Monday to an unknown junior team. Sbisa will not be able to come up for the remaining NHL Season.

Blue Jackets@Ducks

Jiggy

Jackets

Starting Goaltender: J.S. Giguere

Final Score: Blue Jackets 6 Ducks 4

In tonight’s game, it is Hockey Fights Cancer Night all around the entire league as hockey fights its hardest fight. Tonight’s game was a special night, as the Ducks and Blue Jackets took it to the ice. Saku Koivu has to have the most meaning out of the entire Ducks roster, if not all of the players as he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2001 and came back to hockey in 2002 to a eight minute standing ovation from the Montreal Canadiens fans. Honda Center asked Cancer survivors and those currently fighting cancer to stand. As it looked like James Wisniewski said to Koivu “Go on” Saku skated from the blue line where the team was standing. Saku looked all around the Honda Center, to see those standing. Way to go Saku!
Starting Goaltender: J.S. GIguere

GIguere looked very confident, as he gets his first start in about four games. Former Duck Sami Pahlsson was honored during the game, as he sits in a Blue Jackets uniform. He won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007.

Joffrey Lupul scored the first goal of the game from a pass to Scott Niedermayer from Ryan Getzlaf, and Niedermayer gave it to Lupul. Corey Perry saw the shot as he screened Steve Mason and jumped, as Lupul put it in the back of the net.

Giguere bounced a puck away of Nikita Filtov and gloved off a shot. Kris Russell drove the puck, he got through but Giguere gobbled it up. Giguere made another great stop on Derek Dorsett
Giguere didn’t see too much action as the Ducks kept it mostly in their attack zone. Nick Boynton had a great hit on former Duck Sami Pahlsson as Sami was caught with his head down.
Giguere handled the puck behind the net and handed it to Scotty. Giguere turned the puck aside, on the Getzlaf minor penalty (tripping) on Boyachuk. Giguere made excellent saves as he helped kill of the penalty. Giguere turned away a shot from Rick Nash to keep the Jackets scoreless on their power play.
Gigure had a smart move, as he froze the puck on RJ Umberger. Antoine Vermette scored diving between the red circles, as Giguere had a piece of it but he did not have enough to save it. Both goaltenders have gotten a piece of the puck, but it went it. The Ducks got their first power play on a trip from Vermette on Saku Koivu. Scott Niedermayer gets his first goal of the season on the power play; a rebound off of Mike Commodore.

Rick Nash scored on a spin-o-rama the shot went off of Scott Niedermayer’s skate the puck went behind J.S. Giguere. The Ducks played a sporadic game after they got the lead. Giguere smothered the puck on Sami Pahlsson to keep the game even at 2 apiece. Giguere couldn’t hold the puck, as Jakub Voracek got a blind pass from Vermette into traffic in front of Giguere. The Ducks lose it in the Jackets attack zone, but Giguere bailed the team out on a blocker save. Vermette hits the cross bar, as Jakub Varacek tips in his second goal on the rebound as Giguere didn’t know where it was.
During the intermission, Saku Koivu was interviewed as he is a cancer survivor. “Just smile every day. My close family and friends made a deal to find something positive everyday that we can laugh at.”
Saku Koivu had his first penalty as he had a high stick on Vermette. Tyutin’s shot is stopped and frozen, as Giguere left no rebound for the Jackets to score on the power play.
Giguere made an excellent save on Dorsett and covered it up as he inched out slightly more. Joffrey Lupul gets his second goal of the game from a pass off of Corey Perry to Ryan Getzlaf to Lupul. The Lupul, Getzlaf, Perry line is nothing short of amazing.
Teemu Selanne scores to tie the game on the power play from Dorsett’s tripping penalty on Joffrey Lupul; great chemistry from Ryan Whitney and Saku Koivu to ice the cake with: a great pass from Whitey to Koivu and then to Teemu.
Giguere gloved off a shot from Torres and Giguere has a huge smile on his face. His confidence is through the roof. Bobby Ryan was hit and high sticked by Rick Nash but there was no call. It’s because Bobby is a Duck.
Giguere gloves off a shot for Sam Pahlsson and brought it into his chest.
Fedor Tyutin shoots the puck from the blue line and J.S. Giguere goes down and was in pain, as he made a little attempt to save the puck. He fell forward and fell to the ice, he remained there. Giguere has had a groin injury which he said he felt good for to suit up for the game against the Dallas Stars. Jonas Hiller replaced Giguere. Giguere skated off the ice under his own power Hiller patted Giguere on the back, as he made his way down the hall ot the locker room.
Jonas Hiller scooped up a shoot and a face off was in front of him. Jonas Hiller was in net for less than two minutes in the replacement of J.S. Giguere as he was pulled for the extra man. Rick Nash scores on an empty net to seal the deal on the Ducks to give the Ducks their 3rd straight loss. The Ducks go 1-4-0 at home.

J.S. Giguere with Todd Marchant: Reading is the Goal

The Ducks have done the Reading is the Goal for the past few seasons now, choosing different players to participate going to school(s) to promote reading and education encouraging elementary school children to keep on reading. The Ducks, who have won various nominations and awards with their program S.C.O.R.E. (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation & Education)

J.S. Giguere and Todd Marchant were the Ducks to host the Reading is the Goal Day they attended Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary School in Anaheim with their wives, Kristen Giguere and Caroline Marchant; along with Ducks staff and Wild Wing. Several students were handed out binders and various other Ducks goods to further encourage education and reading.

Justin Pogge earns first loss

Matt McCue helps Poggee in front of the net.

Justin Pogge had his first loss of the season in Victoria to the Salmon Kings, who won their first game of the season against the Condors. The opposing goalie Glenn Fisher was the same where Pielmeier earned his very much needed first win of the season, after flailing in his debut. The Condors failed to convert on the power play going 0-5 and failed to find the back of the net in the entire game.

Pogge saved 32 of 35 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Salmon Kings

Timo Pielmeier earns first win.

Pielmeier

Victoria Salmon Kings

As Pielmeier struggled behind a team, who hasn't played with one another very much, earned his first win against the Victoria Salmon Kings. He earned 29 saves to win his first regular season game with the Bakersfield Condors. The Condors have taken a pretty decent flight in front of both goaltenders considering it's been said, they have only played together since the beginning of the season and no longer than that really.

Congratulations to Timo for his first win with the Condors!

Stars@Ducks

Hillsy

Dallas

Justin Pogge had was called up as a precaution due to Giguere complaining of a groin strain, but Giguere was able to suit up for the game against the Dallas Stars.
Final: Stars 4 Ducks 2

Starting Goaltender: Jonas Hiller

Jonas Hiller makes the first save on Mike Ribeiro a point blank save. Steve Ott’s shot was taken down with a glove save by Hiller. Todd Marchant falls into Dallas goaltender Marty Turco, and Marchant was assessed a two minute minor for goaltender interference. Hiller made a critical save on the Stars power play. Hiller is left to be the last line of defense again as he is the one expected as goalie to be the best on the penalty kill.
A fight right off the face off with George Parros and Krystofer Barch; Barch had the slightly better of Parros.
Jonas Hiller made two great stops, but the Stars outdo the Ducks, as James Neal attempted a whack at the puck and Loui Eriksson scores on the rebound. Marty Turco has not faced many shots, as the pressure was mainly poured on Hiller.
Hiller made an amazing save on a fast Loui Eriksson, as he goes down quickly, as he quickly put his glove hand down.
Jonas Hiller was the only player to put the most heart in the first period.
Hiller wisely hung onto the puck as he took the puck into his chest and closed his arms. He let the Ducks make a change.
Mike Brown and Francis Wathier fight as this is Wathier’s first NHL fighting major. Brown took down Watheir to the ice.
Brenden Morrow scores on a turnover from Hiller who had a wide open net. Mike Ribeiro was there to get the pass from Hiller and then gave it to teammate Brenden Morrow.
Hiller made a save on Steve Ott preventing him from putting the Stars up by three on the Ducks power play. Trevor Daley scored on the power play off of a pass from James Neal. Steve couldn’t get the puck past Hiller as he made a point blank save. Hiller covered up the puck and kept Dallas from whacking away.
James Wisniewski took away the passing lane as he blocked a pass/shot.
Ryan Getzlaf scores his first goal of the regular season right under Marty Turco’s arm. Getzlaf ended the scoring drought as the last time the Ducks scored and won at home versus the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday October 14, 2009 a 2-3 win.
Hiller has made some good saves and then Hiller was lucky, as both teams were at the side of the net and Hiller was out of his net, as he tried to keep Barch and the Stars from scoring.

The Ducks had put a heavy amount of pressure on the Stars and Turco, as they swarmed around Turco’s crease to attempt a goal but Turco sticked the puck onto the top of his net, the Ducks do not get another goal.
Bobby Ryan really likes the Spin-O-Rama move as he avoided a hit.
Joffrey Lupul scores as the puck went off of Dallas defenseman Karlis Skarastins, a great momentum with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. The puck was off of Lupul’s heel, kicked onto his stick, off of Skarastins and between Turco’s legs.
Hiller made a great glove save. Hiller made a right pad save as he bailed out Getzlaf on a tipped turn over. The Ducks put a lot of pressure on the Stars as the 3rd period was the only time in the game that the Ducks outshot the Stars. Ryan Getzlaf had a ninja wall put up against him, as Turco made real good glove save. Steve Ott scored on an empty net to win the game 4-2.

Really, the Ducks only played about 10 minutes of the game that actually had something to it near the end of the third period. Too late boys.

Jonas Hiller made some bad decisions which cost a goal after handling the puck behind the net. Otherwise, Hiller stood on his head and bailed the Ducks out way more than once. The other player who did well was James Wisniewski who came off a shoulder injury versus the Philadelphia Flyers.

Giguere questionable for game vs. Dallas

Jiggy

J.S. Giguere is said to be questionable for the game on Wednesday 21, 2009 with a disclosed injury. Giguere has had his finger in a bandage for the past few games, but this is most likely not the case. According to the Orange County Register Giguere left the ice early at the Honda Center during practice. Giguere replaced Hiller in the game against the St. Louis Blues in the 5-0 loss at home. The game was blacked out television wise and was only hosted on radio. The Ducks also played a no heart game vs. the much improved Blues.

If Giguere decides he cannot play in the game against Dallas, which he would most likely of gotten the nod against Dallas. Hiller will start the game and Timo Pielmeier or Justin Pogge will be called up to be the back-up. If Hiller were to encounter an injury or not do well in the game versus the visiting Dallas the [now] undecided call-up goaltender will replace Hiller. The Condors are traveling to Victoria, Canada for their next series of games which is where Pogge or Pielmeier will be called from if Giguere decides he cannot play or the coaching staff makes the decision. Another Duck who is on his own decision to play in the game is James Wisniewski who suffered a minor shoulder injury in the game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Pogge shines. Pielmeier struggles.

Pielmeier left. Pogge right.

(Well, as I don't get any type of game from the Condors whatsoever I can't exactly put on the defense in front of either goalie)

Justin Pogge started in the season opener for the Bakersfield Condors vs. the Kings ECHL team the Ontario Reign. When the game ended, he was 15 for 15 for shots give or take if those were shot on goal (SOG) The Condors won the game 0-5. On Saturday, Timo Pielmeier had the nod to start the game for the second game against the Reign in the two-game series the Condors surrendered an 8-2 loss. The defense also seemed to not pull as good as game as wanted. The Reign chased out Pielmeier and Pogge replaced him. Pielmeier had a hat trick scored against him Ontario's Peter Hogeboom. Pogge allowed one goal on the power play to defenseman Mike Egener.

There's always times wishing that could get the minor league hockey. According the Condors website that their radio is on one of ESPN's channels.

Raise your glass to Pielmeier to have a better game in the next one he starts and to Pogge to continue his good play. Also to our two other goalies, who were invited to camp: Cousineau and Levasseur.

The Condors seem to have the same problem as the Ducks, where there's two very good goalies and they have to give each playing time to figure out who should get the starting role. As probably minor league teams do this anyways, giving both goaltenders a fair amount of playing time. This gives a better chance for the team to look at him at an NHL skilled standpoint.

J.P. Levasseur Sent to the Centeral Hockey League

J.P.

Levasseur sent to the CHL

Update: Levasseur went to Laredo Bucks

The Bakersfield Condors have sent JP Levasseur to Texas in the Central Hockey League. The Condors currently carry Timo Pielmeier and Justin Pogge on their roster the two goaltenders are on the roster for opening night. Levasseur was invited to Ducks training camp and he has played with the Ducks, as he had been recalled in previous seasons due to injury of a goalie.

Thanks to zman on the Ducks boards who brings this information possible and to the Condors main website.

Wild@Ducks

Hillsy

Wild

Special Ducks feature. Joffrey Lupul has a blog he is the first Duck to have his own blog nice to get a inside look from a player. In the Loops

Starting Goalie: Jonas Hiller
Final Score: Wild 2 Ducks 3

The Ducks take on the Minnesota Wild at home after a lengthy road trip the two teams met at the Excel Energy Center in Minnesota, where the Wild stole two points, scoring two goals in just 13 minutes left in the 3rd period. In over time, Wisniewski took a bad penalty and Andrew Brunette would score to win the game for the Wild in a 2-3 final score.

On a turnover in the neutral zone, right to the Wild's zone the puck is lose and Corey Perry grabbed the loose puck which Nick Boynton tapped into the Wild's zone; Perry backhanded it past Backstorm.
Hiller corals the puck as Antti Miettinen tries to put the puck in the back of the net. Hiller closes the 5-hole as he made the point blank save.

The Ducks penalty kill is improving very much. The chemistry is gelling on the penalty kill.
Corey Perry scores again for his second goal of the game putting the Ducks 2-0; it was a wonderful pass from Brendan Mikkelson to Bobby Ryan to Corey Perry.

Evgeny Artyhukin and Shane Hindy got into a fight, where Hindy had a good reach on Arty, and Arty threw a few punches.

Hiller has improved on his 5-hole an area in which he struggled throughout this season and just in general.

Teemu Selanne set up Erik Christensen, who has a one timer, but Niklas Backstrom goes down and throws out his glove hand to stone wall Christensen. Probably his best save in the game. Hiller made a stick save on Brent Burns as the puck got through traffic it was a great last second of the period save.

Hiller made a good leg save on Mikko Koivu shooting from the side of the net.

An excellent save by Hiller as he gloves off the puck and no one was there to put in the rebound. A wrap around by James Sheppard and Hiller makes a save as he went into the butterfly to cover the entire net an excellent lateral save to prevent Sheppard of a goal.
Scott Niedermayer helps Hiller as he cradles the puck nearly in Hiller's crease and pushes it away.
Joffrey Lupul made a great attempt to get the puck to the net shorthanded.
Greg Zanon shoots from the blue line and Hiller sees it all the way the puck goes directly into Hiller's glove hand.
Kyle Brodziak got a poke on the puck as he tried to get it past the red line but Hiller was there.
Backstorm again gives Erik Christensen the wall as Teemu Selanne set him up.

Ryan Carter scores his first goal of the regular season. As George Parros puts himself in front of the net. Carter angled it past Backstorm. It was a Mike Brown to Ryan Carter pass; Parros uses his body in front of Backstorm for Carter to score.
A turn over by Luca Sbisa and poor defensive play Eric Belanger scores top shelf to put the Wild on the board.
Sheppard got into the crease Hiller is that big security man not allowing Sheppard into the club of scoring.

Ryan Getzlaf just barely gets a bad angle as the puck hit the post. Backstorm stones Saku twice on the power play

Joffrey Lupul has a brick wall set in front of him as Backstorm made a leg save on the near breakaway.

Hiller holds the back at 2:18 left in the period, sorry no goals there Minnesota. Hiller is there to stop it and the Ducks are back to Ducks hockey.

Mikko Koivu shoots it from the neutral zone Hiller is careful with that one.Brent Burns shoots it and Hiller saves the shot.

Hiller cannot handle the puck as the Wild have the extra man after pulling goaltender Niklas Backstorm. Andy Hilbert smacked away at the puck and a rebound off of Hiller. Hilberg keeps it alive and somehow manages to squeeze it under Hiller's leg. Andrew Burnette had a wide open net

Gallo due in court Nov 9

Andrew Gallo, the person responsible for the death of Anaheim Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart. Hiller's new mask

Here is the full and complete view of his mask. I really like the back of it. It is quiet interesting paint job as it is a lot more simplistic than his previous two masks.
"Hiller Edition"

He's had this since the first game of the season against the San Jose Sharks, but people have said it's a prototype. Though I'm not too sure, now it's being said it's his final mask. This mask means a lot to him. A native of Switzerland this is where the mask was made in his home country by Airxess the mask and paint job were done by Tornado Proton. The making of the mask also consisted of a CT Scan. A broadcast in German from Switzerland was able to be viewed for all of two hours or less, which was found on The Goalie Guild site as one of Justin's (not Pogge)posts. However, due to being in North America that video quickly became unavailable. The CT Scan was to have a exact fit and get the contours of Hiller's head. Which makes this mask even more unique.

At training camp Hiller came out and signed for fans. (Just never stand behind or near the back of his car when he's backing up, haha. He almost ran over Pielmeier.)Look closely at the contours of the mask. There's little to no ventilation for his head around him and the chin drop.Hiller generally has a lower chin drop on his masks than any other goalie in the league does.

As he was signing for me I asked him:

"When's your new mask coming out"

"I don't know yet but it probably won't be out before the presason"

"Are you excited?"

"Yeah I am excited"

I was barely able to talk to him I was a little nervous. Meeting NHL players is an unbelievable feeling, especially that most of them are so friendly. Some of them are completely shy. Corey Perry is one of those as his face turns red when he's signing for fans and he is completely quiet. Perry comes off as a jerk to a lot of fans but he's more shy than a jerk. He seems like one of those people who really shows himself when he knows those around. if he doesn't he comes off as aloof. (I can't blame him for that I can be pretty shy too and come off aloof.)

Timo Pielmeier was waiting patiently for Hiller to sign things not too sure how well Pielmeier knows English, but I could be wrong on his English skills. Pielmeier was born and raised in Germany. My most best memory about Pielmeier will always be when he was waiting for Hiller with a huge smile on his face wearing a Blue Jays hat. He was playing the pre-season game against his former NHL team the Sharks.

Ducks@Bruins

Hiller

Bruins

Final: Ducks 6 Bruins 1

Starting Goaltender: Jonas Hiller

The Ducks first win of the season as they pummel Boston to rally to a 6-1 win
Jonas Hiller gets his 2nd start of the season and his looking for his first win of season against the best team in the East last season. Bruins’ goaltender Tim Thomas, who stood on the opposite side of the ice from Hiller, won the Vezina Trophy for the best goaltender last year.

Fact: Jonas Hiller sharpens his own skates. He’s been doing it for seven years.
Hiller made the first two saves of the game; he prevents a goal through traffic as he went down into the butterfly position. The puck went off Hiller’s skate leaving a huge rebound in his crease, as the net was wide open. Hiller jumped on it and covered it up a highlight save.
“Now turned over and Hiller holds the line” –Brian Hayward A turnover at the crease Hiller saves.

Someone who is 6’9 and with wickedly hard slap shot? The giant Zdeno Chara shot the puck which got through traffic to Hiller and Hiller smothered the puck.
Marco Sturm rips it off the wing and through his 5-hole. The shot lifted Hiller’s stick slightly off the ice past a shocked Hiller.

Bobby Ryan has improved his physical game as he has more big hits in the game against the Bruins on young gun Blake Wheeler. Wheeler is shaken up but hit his head on a padded post along the glass. Best thing was the little boy’s expression in the background.

Teemu Selanne scores on a 5-3 man advantage as Corey Perry screened Tim Thomas. Teemu Selanne scores again on the power play. 1:23 apart. Tim Thomas was unable to hold the puck. The penalties proved costly to the Boston Bruins.
Hiller makes a save as the Bruins whack at the puck all the Bruins have is Hiller’s pads to knock it into.

Ryan Carter helps clear a rebound in front of Hiller. Hiller’s biggest problem is his rebounds, as he needs and will improve on throughout the year.
Corey Perry scores his first goal of the regular season as Tim Thomas goes down. Perry is patient hesitates to shoot and every player on the ice buys into the fake. Perry was awarded with a wide open net.

Wideman's shot is held as Hiller absorbs the puck into his chest prevented a late period goal.

The defense in front of Hiller has saved him a few times such as Nick Boynton and Ryan Carter. Ryan Carter is overall having a good game with the exception of the penalties he’s taken.

Hiller gloved off a save for his first save of the 3rd period. Hiller had made a save on Shawn Thornton on a long shot preventing goal from the Bruins to keep the gape at 3-1 Ducks.

Evgeny Artyhukin gets a pass from Joffrey Lupul. Arty has pressure on him and puts it past Tim Thomas right through the 5-hole.

The team in front of Hiller is showing a much better game than they did that last two games which were loses against the San Jose Sharks and a bad loss against the Minnesota Wild. The Bruins have a lot of turnovers which is great for the Ducks as that costs goals for either team.

Finally after so many scoring chances and being stone walled by Thomas so many times Bobby Ryan is awarded with his first goal of the season.

In the 3rd Hiller doesn’t see too much action or too many shots as the Ducks have definitely improved from the past two games in this still young season. The historic Boston Garden is quiet as the Ducks led their Bruins 5-1.

One of the worst things for a goalie during a game is not seeing too much action in his zone. While a goalie can be happy watching the game being played in front of him. He must keep full concentration Sometimes the goalie can go a little cold and let in a “bad goal” as it is called. As said before, Hiller hadn’t seen too much action in his zone or when he has seen action, the defense has done well and hasn’t seen too many shots

Hiller saw a shot as he absorbed the puck into his chest.
A shorthanded goal what an odd goal, as Corey Perry skates into the Bruins zone, a rebound off of Thomas and off of Perry’s head over Thomas’ shoulder, smiles all around the Ducks bench and the Ducks on the ice. Joffrey Lupul blocked a shot in front of Hiller which started the play for Perry.
Hiller played better in the game against the Bruins than he did in the game against the San Jose Sharks.

J.P. Levasseur, Timo Pielmeier, and Justin Pogge

Levasseur, Pielmeier, and Pogge are the top three Ducks goaltenders with Pogge being the No 3 goalie behind Giguere and Hiller. If and when Giguere or Hiller goes down on injury Pogge will be called up to replace either of the goaltenders. A player (in any sport) is bound to "go down" from an injury, if that wasn't known to you.

The top three goalies currently sit on the roster for the Ducks' East Coast Hockey League affiliate the Bakersfield Condors. Originally all 3 goaltenders were sent to San Antonio who is Phoenix's main farm affiliate. Leavesseur was the first to be sent down out of the three goalies and Marco Consineau the first out of the four invited goaltenders [to training camp]. Consineau is also the youngest out of the four. Marco Consineau was sent down to Drummond of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)

The San Antonio Rampage already had two goaltenders on their roster which made no room for either goalie as the Ducks sent the trio separately to "Good 'Ol Texas"

Justin Pogge was the last to be sent down to minor hockey, as he was already aware he wasn't going to play regularly in the NHL. With two great goalies in Giguere and Hiller there was no chance this year. As rumored latest by the end of the NHL season. Giguere or Hiller will be gone if rumor is true Pogge may take over the back up goaltender spot.

Final : Ducks 3 Wild 4
Starting Goaltender: J.S. Giguere
Giguere got his first start of the season. As they battle between who gets the starting goalie position. Both goalies are to split the time. We should see both goalies fighting for the No. 1 spot throughout the next few games. Brothers Saku and Mikko Koivu played against one another in tonight’s game. Special game for the Koivu bothers.

Giguere covered up a shot which had bounced off of Stephanson’s stick. Bobby Ryan is assigned the first penalty of the game for hooking. Giguere handled the puck whacking the puck away with the back hand helping his team clear out the zone and helping further kill the penalty on Bobby Ryan

Those who deny that the style Giguere plays doesn’t fit today’s NHL could and probably will be proven wrong this season as Giguere has his head back in the game of hockey and is looking to re-secure and keep his No 1 spot secured for the 2009-2010 season. His positioning and poise so far has been fine.
Giguere came into the game against the Minnesota Wild with 302 wins and 31 shutouts and is the Ducks winningest goalie.

Bobby Ryan had a huge hit hooray!

The defense is playing better in front of Giguere than they did in front of Hiller. However the second game of the season, the Ducks still show signs of needing to gel with the new faces on the team.

Giguere makes a huge save to keep the game 0-0. Giguere makes a save on Mikko Koivu, as he slightly came out of his crease. He absorbed the puck into his chest. The save was huge as Ryan Getzlaf sat in the penalty box.

Ryan Whitney makes a smart play and shoots the puck from the point. Joffrey Lupul makes sure the puck gets into the net and trickles it past Niklas Backstorm, it is Jofferey Lupul’s first goal of the regular season. Lupul is hit by the puck in the face, he skates off the ice by his own power, but he headed to the Ducks locker room. Evgeny Atyukin has his first goal as a Duck making the Wild trail 2-0, great pass by Corey Perry.

Giguere is all Giguere tonight. The Ducks know this is who he really is. Giguere is back!

Saku Koivu scores his first goal as a Duck of the regular season with the help of Ryan Whitney and James Wisniewski. How can you hate Mike Brown? You can’t! He got involved in the scrape, as always.

Giguere hadn’t seen too much action as the Ducks play better against the Wild than they did against the San Jose Sharks in the season opener. Niklas Backstrom sees and has quite a lot pressure on him.

Giguere’s glove hand has improved, an area where he has struggled throughout his career. Giguere has showed more puck handling. Giguere comes all in his power to prevent goals for the Minnesota Wild. Giguere is more positioned to the shooter which has enabled him to prevent any type of goal from the Wild.
Giguere has left few rebounds but it can’t be said he has a completely clean record this game of rebounds otherwise he has not let rebounds happen for the majority of the game.

Joffrey Lupul returned to the game for the 3rd period with stitches above his eye. That is why hockey is amazing.

Scott tries to rev up his team fighting George Parros, Scott got the better of Georgie, and George looked frustrated for that very reason.
Did you know that J.S. Giguere doesn’t want anyone to block any shots in front of him? He wants to see them all the way. (From Brian Hayward, former goalie and Ducks t.v. announcer)

Giguere made a point blank stop bailing out his teammates on the penalty kill. Mikko Koivu scored on the Wild’s power play both Koivu brothers had a power play goal. On the goal, Giguere looked like he wasn’t exactly sure where the puck was as Koivu shot it to put the puck past him.

Petr Sykora, who played for the Ducks for one season scored low on Giguere as he left an open net and Sykora got passed Marchant The Ducks and Giguere got a break as Giguere had a piece of the puck and the puck went off the post. The last 5 minutes of the game the Wild poured on the pressure in the Ducks zone.
Eric Belanger scores on the power play sniping it through Giguere’s leg. This team looks like the team on Saturday in the 3rd period. We keep leaving the goalie up to dry in the 3rd when we have a lead and end up blowing it. It has been done with both Giguere and Hiller in the net both have been thrown under the bus because the team
lays back.
Andrew Brunette scored on the power play to give the Wild the win.

Overall, Giguere played well but like Hiller he still has rust though Giguere seemingly did better than Hiller but the team in front of both goaltenders really needs to improve.

From rags to riches

Pogge helps a boy from St. Joseph Ballet try on some shoes for the 2009-2010 school year.

Justin Pogge was involved in his first charity as a Duck when he joined Steve Eminger, Sheldon Brookbank, and Sheldon's wife Lene in the annual "Back to School Shopping Spree" at Wal-Mart. The three Ducks helped kids from St. Joesph Ballet get excited for the school year. The kids are of low income families. The story below goes to show that this charity event probably meant a lot to Pogge. Since he's been in the same boat as these children.

(The link to the story is provided to give proper credit but the story has since been taken down, here is some of the story you see below which I pulled from the NHL Arena fan forum and those crazy Leafs fans)

The story of one of the newest acquired goaltenders who's prompted to be the No 3 goaltender has a heartwarming story about a mother who never gave up, no matter what. She did what was best for her son.

Justin's Story:

They almost went bankrupt, but Justin Pogge's mom wasn't about to let that stop her son from hearing the sound of skates cut through the ice. A single parent, trying to make ends meet, Annet Pogge managed somehow to let her son play. A good decision, considering he went on to lead Canada to a gold medal in the World Junior Championships and now plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

"I always loved hockey," he beams after speaking with a panel of other hockey types on Wednesday at the Barley Mill, including Edmonton Oilers coach Pat Quinn. "Growing up, before I was playing organized hockey I was playing street hockey and on the ponds. Getting a chance to play has been a huge part of my life and it kept me on the straight and narrow and introduced me to a lot of great people and a great lifestyle, so I will always be in debt to hockey."

It's the struggles that Pogge's mom went through and the ability to give back to Penticton, a community they both call home now, that drives him to an event like the Saturday's Hall of Fame Summer Classic at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

"I was in the same boat as some of those kids," said the goaltender, who will be playing for Team Quinn on Saturday. "I think my first year of hockey I was sponsored through the Calgary Flames. My mom couldn't afford it and I don't know how she put up the money to keep me going in hockey, but I appreciate it. Thanks to a lot of charities like this it allows kids who normally can't play to play. I think every kid should get that same chance I did."

Being offered free minor hockey registration from the Calgary Flames and a complete set of equipment through the Calgary Boys and Girls Club set Pogge on the path of growing a passion for the game. It is something that the Penticton Minor Hockey Association also hopes to accomplish with children who are struggling to get involved in organized hockey ...

Sharks@Ducks Home Opener

Photo
Former Captain Patrick Marleau (Marleau was stripped of his captaincy in August and the "C" was given to Rob Blake for the 2009-2010 season.) screens Jonas Hiller. Brett Festerling tries to defend the shooter from a goal. Hiller looks over the shoulder of Marleau as Marleau makes a better door than he does a window.

Final: Sharks 4 Ducks 1

Starting Goaltender: Jonas Hiller

The game starts off with many penalties. Including a fight with Mike Brown and Scott Nichol. They exchanged words and then suddenly hug one another in an unfriendly matter. Brownie takes down Nichol and wins the fight a 5 minute penalty is handed to both players.

Hiller lets in three goals in the first. The defense in front of him didn't do well and obviously Hiller still has rust. Some shots Hiller does like he normally does, he makes saves. A sprawling Hiller goes down to the ice to make an amazing save. Hiller had gone down too early which cost him goals the defense played a sloppy period, which cost goals.

In the beginning of the 2nd period Hiller continued to play, he makes some leg saves and keeps the puck out of the net. The Sharks score on the power play. There is little defense in front of Hiller and Hiller goes down leaving a wide open net above his leg for Devin Setoguchi to score a power play goal. The penalty was assigned to Ryan Whitney for holding.

Again, the Ducks are outshot and the Ducks had no shots, a little half way into the period. This doesn't help Hiller that he is being worked like a slave.
There's quite a few scrums among both teams. The Ducks are taking a lot of penalties which is caused too much power plays for the Sharks. Hiller covered up a shot to prevent Joe Thornton from a rebound goal.

The defense has done well as the prevent shots on Hiller but failed to clear their zone for about two minutes.

Marleau had a spin-0-rama and Hiller makes one if not his best save of the game, throwing out his left leg preventing Marleau from making an even wider deficit onto his team.

A question can be asked. Especially after Hiller let in the 3rd goal is why was Hiller still in. Why hasn't he gotten the hook. That's a good question regardless of the defense in front of him. Their sloppy plays and the obvious time needing time to gel and get used to each other. The question still remains why is Hiller still in net? Giguere would of been pulled after the 3rd goal. Giguere has been pulled with the same kind of defense Hiller has in front of him maybe the defense was a little better since the chemistry had gelled. Unlike in the first game of the season. The defense had still made sloppy plays in front of Giguere and it frustrated him that is in concerns of the game against the Minnesota Wild. Hiller replaced Giguere in that game.

Hiller probably isn't happy with his own performance in tonight's game. Hiller has a lot of shots on him and he's going down early on some of the shots leaving a wide open net and he had left a dream come true rebounds. Which the Sharks took the opportunity on.

The Ducks need to prevent less shots for the Sharks. The question about the Ducks defense is; is the Ducks defense now bad due to the loss of both Francois Beauchemin, who currently plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the loss of Chris Pronger, who was traded at the draft for promising young defenseman Luca Sbisa and getting back Joffrey Lupul from the Philadelphia Flyers.

Dan Boyle, a cheap shot on Todd Marchant and all the skaters get into a brawl. The Ducks were just protecting their own teammates. Sharks' Doug Murray is ejected from the game for game misconduct. Many penalties are assigned to both teams. The Ducks receive the power play.

Sharks captain Rob Blake had fallen onto both Bobby Ryan and Todd Marchant within a three minute span. Fighting for the puck. Blake laid on both Ryan and Marchant not letting them up. Bobby covered up the puck with his body and the puck came lose from Marchant but Blake continued to lay on him pinning him against the ice and boards for a few more seconds.

Hiller still being worked had recompsed himself not letting in any goals, he had a few leg saves and covered up the puck preventing rebounds from going into his net.

Finally, the Ducks get on the board with a Ryan Whitney power play goal.

Hiller makes another great save on Rob Blake as Ryan Whitney cleared the shooting slot as Blake takes a hard shot and Hiller sees it all the way and absorbs the puck catching it in his glove hand and using his blocker hand as extra as he brought it into his chest. Hiller went into the narrow butterfly position. Both Hiller and Giguere use the narrow butterfly in a great deal of their play. Both butterfly goalies as both former goalie coach Francois Allaire a butterfly goalie coach had worked on with both netminders.

Hiller made a save on Joe Pavelski an excellent save.

With Hiller his performance was definitely not stellar and it falls short of both good and bad. His performance for the game as mediocre as was the defense and the offense. The Ducks drop the game to the Sharks in a 4-1 loss.

This team had too many turnovers and sloppy plays in the Ducks Zone.
