Leafs@Ducks

Hillsy

Leafs

Justin Pogge was called up to replace an injured Giguere who aggravated his groin during the loss to the Blue Jackets. Justin Pogge was all smiles as the media from Toronto flooded over to Pogge's stall in the Ducks locker room. Watch his interview here

Leafs Mike Komisarek’s mother had Pancreatic Cancer and Ducks Saku Koivu called her every day, Komisarek said she had a smile from ear to ear after she got off the phone. Komisarek and Koivu are very good friends. Unfortunately, Komisarek's mother lost her battle. Saku Koivu made her life much easier.

The Ducks allowed 5 power play goals in their loss to the Maple Leafs the most in franchise history.

Final: Maple Leafs 6 Ducks 3

Starting Goaltender: Jonas Hiller

Hiller threw out his glove hand to make his first save of the game. Hiller made a closed butterfly save on Grabvoski. Erik Chirstensen got a tough break as the puck missed the net it looked like it was going to go in but it did not. Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson robbed him. Hiller made two saves, the first on former Duck Francois Beauchmin the puck had gotten away from him and he gobbled up the rebound.

Petteri Nokelainen got his first goal of the season as he got the pass from Bobby Ryan who got it from Scotty.

Niedermayer passed the puck to Nokelainen and Nokelainen shot the puck through traffic, as Todd Marchant was there on the door step, to block Gustavsson from seeing the puck all the way. Noke shot it from the blue line a one timer that went in.

George Parros got into a fight with Colton Orr definitely his best fight it was quite funny as Cole pushed the ref away who fell and quickly got up.

A line brawl with both teams gear was flying off and players were going at it. Getzlaf got into it with former Duck Beauchmin. Bobby Ryan came in Getzlaf’s defense. Scott Niedermayer also got into the fight. Corey Perry got a double minor as he before the brawl. Matt Stajan tried to keep Corey Perry out of the play and Perry reacted by lifting him and throwing him to the ice.

Francois Beachmin’s shot is corralled by Hiller. Hiller prevented all attempts as the Leafs tried to stuff it into the net. Mikhail Grabovski scored on the 3 on 5 man advantage power play. James Wisniewski went to the box for slashing; a great aerial pass from Matt Sajan from Tomas Kerbele to Mikhail Grabovoski.

A shot got through and passed Hiller on yet another power play goal by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the puck went top shelf as Hiller was on his knees and could not stop the puck. Jonas Hiller makes a save on the young Luke Schenn. Schenn, a highly touted young player’s shot was gobbled up as he had shot it from the blue line.
The Ducks took yet another penalty as Nokelainen went into the box on a hooking call. Hiller tries to make a save, as he went down on his side and stuck out his leg. Saku Koivu has excellent backchecking on his stick work to prevent the game from going 3-1 after the first period.

The Ducks did not throw very many shots in the beginning of the period.
The Ducks were not winning battles, which was a bad start to the beginning of second period.

Stempiak hit Todd Marchant hard; it looked to be a clean hit but a dangerous hit as Marchant hit his head on the boards. Thank you for the helmet Todd Marchant was not injured as badly as he could of been. Scott Niedermayer went in to attack Stempiak and was called for roughing. Yet the hit looked so dirty that hit could not of been ignored there was no way it could.

Another power play goal by Niklas Hagman gave the Leafs a 3-1 lead in mid period. Hiller made a great save on Stempiak but could not save the rebound as it went under his arm by a shot from Niklas Hagman.

Finally, the Ducks convert on a power play as Bobby Ryan put it behind Gustavsson who was down in the butterfly position as the Ducks got a much needed Power play; great connection with Perry and Scotty. It was a beautiful pass from Corey Perry to Bobby Ryan a great choice by Bobby as he put it behind The Monster. You can definitely see Allaire in his play.

Hiller gloved Grabokoski’s shot right out of the air a good angle cut which kept the Ducks deficit by one. There’s absolutely no doubt that Gustavsson had been delivering for the Leafs. Lee Stempiak scores the Leafs first regular goal as James Wisniewski went down and the puck went right through Hiller’s legs. Hiller has made some excellent saves but he has been struggling throughout the game.

James Wisniewski has a bad call against him as he swings the stick but only touches the puck and nothing else. At that the Leafs went on another power play. Captain Scott Niedermayer did not like the call as it should have been.

Tomas Karbele scored on the controversial power play on James Wisniewski and it bounces off of Hiller into the back of the net. The Ducks do not have a good penalty kill as they’ve been straggling on the penalty kill the entire game against Toronto. Hiller was not happy as he swallowed hard looking up at the Jumbotron.

A frustrated Anaheim Ducks team gets into more scrums with the Toronto Maple Leafs. George Parros has picked up a Game Misconduct.

It looked like James Wisniewski had a goal but he did not get it as the Leafs defense helped Gustavsson. Saku Koivu got a minor penalty for goaltender interference. The Leafs were yet again saved on a 5 on 3 Hiller robbed with his glove to prevent the goal.

Jonas Hiller made an excellent save on Niklas Hagman but left out the rebound and Hagman gets a hat trick. Hiller could not stop the rebound.

Corey Perry got a goal from a great pass off of Brendan Mikkelson to Ryan Getzlaf a outlet pass to Corey Perry. Perry shot the puck and got it behind Gustavsson. There was little to no celebration on Perry's goal not even he had a huge celebration. He threw up his arms for less than a second knowing that this goal could and would not get the Ducks to rally on a 3 goal deficit with 6:33 seconds left in the period. However the goal was his 5th goal of the season.

The Ducks went on just their third power play on a hooking call on the Leafs. Bobby Ryan was robbed by Gustavsson on a attempted power play goal. Bobby Ryan stick handled the puck around Gustavsson, fell and tried to swipe the puck into the net but the puck went to Gustavsson as if he were a magnet. Bobby Ryan lay on the ground and it could be seen Bobby saying “How did that not get in!?”

The Anaheim Ducks are 1-5-0 at home and lose their 4th straight. The Toronto Maple Leafs got their very first win of the season.

NEW FEATURE: Post Game quotes from the Boys in the Crease:
"It’s terrible," said Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller, who gave up all six Toronto scores. "We wish we knew what the problem is. Right now, we’re struggling and we can’t find a way to get out. I don’t know what it is. We have to go back to the basics. Everybody can play better, me included. I know I can play better. I hope everybody does. That is the only way we can go from here."

"Once we feel like we’re going, we take the next goal against and we’re back in the hole again," Hiller said. "I wish I had the solution. Hockey is a game of confidence and trusting each other. I don’t think that’s what we’re doing right now."
