Giguere Injury

J.S. Giguere aggravated his groin muscle in the 6-4 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. A goal from the blue line off of Tyutin and a late reaction resulted in the aggravation of the injury; Justin Pogge was called up for the game against the Dallas Stars, just in case Giguere was unable suit up, the Ducks had reassigned Pogge back to their ECHL Affiliate in Bakersfield when Giguere was cleared and dressed for the Dallas game.
Jonas Hiller replaced Giguere and was pulled for the extra man as the Ducks could not hold back Columbus Rick Nash sealed the deal on an empty net; the Jackets surprised hockey fans around the league of making the playoffs. Their first playoff run in their respective history.

Pogge is a possibility of the call up against his former NHL team the Toronto Maple Leafs. The final decision will most likely come tomorrow morning. Giguere has so far ruled himself out of play for tomorrow's game.

“Uh, no,” Giguere said when asked if he could play. “Give it a couple of days rest here, and see what’s going to happen. We’re not too concerned about it, but … we have to give it time and make sure it’s ready.”

Giguere aggravated a groin muscle injury in the waning moments of Saturday’s game against Columbus when he tried to stop a shot by Fedor Tyutin.

“I didn’t see the puck until the last second, and when I saw it I threw my leg out and my groin let go,” he said.


Also in the news: Luca Sbisa the 19-year old defenseman, ,who the Ducks got as part of the deal with Joffrey Lupul in a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers which sent 2007 Stanley Cup wining defenseman Chris Pronger during the NHL entry draft on July 1, 2009 to Philly. Sbisa will be reassigned on Monday to an unknown junior team. Sbisa will not be able to come up for the remaining NHL Season.
