Blue Jackets@Ducks

Jiggy

Jackets

Starting Goaltender: J.S. Giguere

Final Score: Blue Jackets 6 Ducks 4

In tonight’s game, it is Hockey Fights Cancer Night all around the entire league as hockey fights its hardest fight. Tonight’s game was a special night, as the Ducks and Blue Jackets took it to the ice. Saku Koivu has to have the most meaning out of the entire Ducks roster, if not all of the players as he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2001 and came back to hockey in 2002 to a eight minute standing ovation from the Montreal Canadiens fans. Honda Center asked Cancer survivors and those currently fighting cancer to stand. As it looked like James Wisniewski said to Koivu “Go on” Saku skated from the blue line where the team was standing. Saku looked all around the Honda Center, to see those standing. Way to go Saku!
Starting Goaltender: J.S. GIguere

GIguere looked very confident, as he gets his first start in about four games. Former Duck Sami Pahlsson was honored during the game, as he sits in a Blue Jackets uniform. He won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007.

Joffrey Lupul scored the first goal of the game from a pass to Scott Niedermayer from Ryan Getzlaf, and Niedermayer gave it to Lupul. Corey Perry saw the shot as he screened Steve Mason and jumped, as Lupul put it in the back of the net.

Giguere bounced a puck away of Nikita Filtov and gloved off a shot. Kris Russell drove the puck, he got through but Giguere gobbled it up. Giguere made another great stop on Derek Dorsett
Giguere didn’t see too much action as the Ducks kept it mostly in their attack zone. Nick Boynton had a great hit on former Duck Sami Pahlsson as Sami was caught with his head down.
Giguere handled the puck behind the net and handed it to Scotty. Giguere turned the puck aside, on the Getzlaf minor penalty (tripping) on Boyachuk. Giguere made excellent saves as he helped kill of the penalty. Giguere turned away a shot from Rick Nash to keep the Jackets scoreless on their power play.
Gigure had a smart move, as he froze the puck on RJ Umberger. Antoine Vermette scored diving between the red circles, as Giguere had a piece of it but he did not have enough to save it. Both goaltenders have gotten a piece of the puck, but it went it. The Ducks got their first power play on a trip from Vermette on Saku Koivu. Scott Niedermayer gets his first goal of the season on the power play; a rebound off of Mike Commodore.

Rick Nash scored on a spin-o-rama the shot went off of Scott Niedermayer’s skate the puck went behind J.S. Giguere. The Ducks played a sporadic game after they got the lead. Giguere smothered the puck on Sami Pahlsson to keep the game even at 2 apiece. Giguere couldn’t hold the puck, as Jakub Voracek got a blind pass from Vermette into traffic in front of Giguere. The Ducks lose it in the Jackets attack zone, but Giguere bailed the team out on a blocker save. Vermette hits the cross bar, as Jakub Varacek tips in his second goal on the rebound as Giguere didn’t know where it was.
During the intermission, Saku Koivu was interviewed as he is a cancer survivor. “Just smile every day. My close family and friends made a deal to find something positive everyday that we can laugh at.”
Saku Koivu had his first penalty as he had a high stick on Vermette. Tyutin’s shot is stopped and frozen, as Giguere left no rebound for the Jackets to score on the power play.
Giguere made an excellent save on Dorsett and covered it up as he inched out slightly more. Joffrey Lupul gets his second goal of the game from a pass off of Corey Perry to Ryan Getzlaf to Lupul. The Lupul, Getzlaf, Perry line is nothing short of amazing.
Teemu Selanne scores to tie the game on the power play from Dorsett’s tripping penalty on Joffrey Lupul; great chemistry from Ryan Whitney and Saku Koivu to ice the cake with: a great pass from Whitey to Koivu and then to Teemu.
Giguere gloved off a shot from Torres and Giguere has a huge smile on his face. His confidence is through the roof. Bobby Ryan was hit and high sticked by Rick Nash but there was no call. It’s because Bobby is a Duck.
Giguere gloves off a shot for Sam Pahlsson and brought it into his chest.
Fedor Tyutin shoots the puck from the blue line and J.S. Giguere goes down and was in pain, as he made a little attempt to save the puck. He fell forward and fell to the ice, he remained there. Giguere has had a groin injury which he said he felt good for to suit up for the game against the Dallas Stars. Jonas Hiller replaced Giguere. Giguere skated off the ice under his own power Hiller patted Giguere on the back, as he made his way down the hall ot the locker room.
Jonas Hiller scooped up a shoot and a face off was in front of him. Jonas Hiller was in net for less than two minutes in the replacement of J.S. Giguere as he was pulled for the extra man. Rick Nash scores on an empty net to seal the deal on the Ducks to give the Ducks their 3rd straight loss. The Ducks go 1-4-0 at home.
